New sales forecasts for electric vehicles indicate a positive future for electric cars, but how soon in the future? Richard Cohen, an associate professor of mechanical engineering at Temple, predicts electric vehicles won’t really take off until the price of gas really skyrockets. “It’s not going to happen for at least 25 years," Cohen said. "As problems of storage, recharging and mass production are solved, more will be sold and perhaps by that time, gasoline will be expensive enough that people will decide that electric cars are better."
