Preventing discrimination and harassment
As the new fiscal year is about to begin, the Office of Equal Opportunity Compliance wants to remind all faculty, administrators and staff that Temple University is committed to providing a workplace and educational environment free of unlawful discrimination and harassment. The University will not tolerate discrimination or harassment based on an individual’s age, color, disability, marital status, national or ethnic origin, race, religion, sex (including pregnancy), sexual orientation, gender identity, genetic information or veteran status.
The Office of Equal Opportunity Compliance reminds you that no person shall be excluded from participation in, be denied the benefit of, be treated differently from others, or otherwise be discriminated against in any University program or activity on the basis of any protected characteristic, including age.
University policy prohibits retaliation in any form against any member of the university community who exercises his or her right to initiate a discrimination complaint or inquiry in good faith, a protected activity, or who participates in the resolution process for complaints alleging discrimination. Threats, coercion, and other forms of intimidation are strictly prohibited and are cause for appropriate disciplinary action.
Managers and supervisors are responsible for:
• knowing and understanding the Temple University nondiscrimination policy;
• explaining this policy to persons under their supervision;
• taking appropriate action to prevent unlawful discrimination and harassment;
• being receptive to concerns and complaints of unlawful discrimination and/or harassment;
• taking appropriate action when they become aware of potential violations of this policy.
