Dear Stella: Special virtual campus edition

Stella answers your questions about refunds, continued academic services and more.

This is a unique time when most campus operations are taking place virtually and away from campus, and we’re attending our classes from the safety of our kitchens or hunkered down in the corner of a bedroom, all while practicing social distancing. We know these actions are important for helping to keep us healthy and safe, but we also know you have so many questions. So, we asked our dear Stella to help us provide you with the answers you need.

Q: What do I do with my rented textbooks? How can I return them? Will the bookstore stay open?
A: The bookstore is closed, but you will be able to return your rented textbooks by mail. A free shipping return label will be emailed to you closer to the end of the semester. If for any reason FedEx or USPS gets interrupted, the bookstore will waive late fees on returns.

Q: Will Tuttleman Counseling Services stay open?
A: Tuttleman Counseling Services will not be offering in-person appointments, but they will continue to offer counseling services remotely to anyone who remains in Pennsylvania. If you left campus and relocated somewhere in the state, you can continue to receive counseling through online appointments. Unfortunately, if you relocated to another state, Tuttleman cannot offer you counseling services for the duration of the semester, but will work with you to refer you to a provider in your area. Learn more.

Q: Are student services open?
A: Academic student support services, such as the Writing Center and tutoring at the Student Success Center, academic advising appointments, and career counseling, are in operation, but are taking place remotely, often through Zoom. More information on these and other academic supports during this period can also be found on the TUPortal “COVID-19” tab.

Q: What about student workers/students doing internships?
A: If you have a job on campus or an internship, you should check with your supervisor to discuss the details of your situation.

Q: Are the TECH Center and Student Center staying open?
A: Both the TECH Center and Student Center are closed until further notice.

Q: What about the Cherry Pantry? I heard that’s staying open.
A: Yes, it’s open but it has temporarily moved to the Temple Police Substation located in Morgan Hall South on Park Avenue near Cecil B. Moore. You can pick up one bag per week of pre-packaged food on Tuesdays from 10 a.m. to 12 p.m. and on Fridays from 3 to 5 p.m. If you need help accessing the station, please email pantry@temple.edu.

Q: What will Charles Library’s hours be?
A: Charles Library is closed until further notice. However, you may be able to access the library’s digital resources and get help from a librarian remotely. Learn more

Q: Will we get reimbursed for housing?
A: Yes, you will receive a refund from University Housing and Residential Life based on the date you checked out.

Q: What about my SEPTA pass refund?
A: Good news. SEPTA is currently refunding passes. Here is the number to call: 215-580-7800. Learn more.

Q: Will the gyms be open?
A: Sorry, no. Campus Recreation facilities on Main Campus are closed until further notice. Learn more.

Q: Are sports teams still practicing? Will there be any games?
A: Temple Athletics has suspended all of its spring sports seasons for the health and well-being of our student-athletes, coaches, staff and fans.
