Ultimate campus event list: October 2024

Here are the most exciting things to do at Temple this month.

The semester is in full swing, and it’s officially time to embrace the fall season. Of course, October marks Temple’s annual Homecoming and Family Weekend, but there’s so much more happening this month. From fun thrift pop-ups to meaningful mindfulness sessions, there’s no shortage of events to fill your calendar with excitement, connection and school spirit.

Temple’s event calendar has a complete list of events, but here are a few of our favorites happening this month.

Stronger together
Curious about weight training? Join Ladies Lift at the Aramark STAR Complex! This supportive, early-morning session is designed for women interested in exploring weight training in a comfortable and inclusive environment. Whether you’re a beginner or looking to enhance your skills, Ladies Lift provides a welcoming space to build strength and confidence.

When: Second Sunday of every month, 9–11:30 a.m.
Where: Aramark STAR Complex

A moment for mindfulness
Mindful Mondays are very cutesy, very considerate. Tap into the power of mindfulness with the Wellness Resource Center! Discover the science behind mindfulness and participate in optional guided practices designed to help you find balance and thrive this semester. Join us for a mindful moment; you deserve it!

When: Every other Monday
Where: Virtual

Explore environmentalism
Get your green on with the Office of Sustainability’s EcoReps workshops! Join every Monday for an interactive, peer-led session where you can connect with fellow sustainability activists, stay updated on the latest eco-initiatives and participate in hands-on workshops. Upcoming workshops will explore the environmental impact of natural disasters, the fast fashion industry and more! 

When: Every Monday, 6–7 p.m.
Where: Charles Library, Room 210

Nothin’ but net 
Join Campus Rec weekly throughout October for an energetic night of all things net, perfect for unwinding and staying active! Enjoy a fun-filled evening of volleyball, badminton and table tennis every Friday night from 7 p.m. to 10 p.m. at the 3rd floor rec courts in Pearson and McGonigle Halls. 

When: Every Friday, 7–10 p.m.

With the election just around the corner, make sure your voice is heard. Stop by the Temple Votes registration tables on campus to get your questions answered, pick up some cool Temple Votes swag and ensure you’re registered to vote. Don’t miss your chance to be election-ready!

Breaking barriers
Celebrate the trailblazing women changing the game in sports media at the inaugural Claire Smith Women in Sports Media Symposium! Hosted by Klein College, this groundbreaking event brings together influential voices across the industry. Claire Smith was the first woman to cover Major League Baseball on a full-time basis, breaking barriers for women in the industry. During the event, attendees will dive into dynamic discussions, known as CLAIRE talks, which encourage individuals to Challenge, Learn, Analyze, Inspire, Resolve and Empower their own lives. Hear from influential voices like Doris Burke, the first woman to call an NBA Championship Final, and Shakeia Taylor, a pioneering baseball historian. Register now and join for a day that celebrates the past, present and future of women in sports media!

Meet with a variety of companies, discover different industries and learn about internships, jobs and career paths that could be right for you. Not sure where to start? Discover a world of opportunities at Temple’s annual Global Engagement Week! This exciting week features a variety of events focused on international experiences, including cultural workshops, coffee chats and the Study Abroad Fair. The celebration wraps up with the biggest international event of the year, the Global Gala, a vibrant event honoring diverse cultures with captivating performances and a delicious selection of international foods. Embrace new cultures and explore potential destinations that could be your next adventure!

Spooky season
Get into the Halloween spirit by crafting seasonal decor that will make your dorm or apartment boo-tiful! Set aside some time with friends to join the Halloween decor workshop, where you can enjoy guided crafts featuring pumpkins, ghosts and all things spooky. 

When: Friday, Oct. 25, 2–3:30 p.m. 
Where: Makerspace, Scholars Studio in Charles Library

Race in the race
As October wraps up, Election Day is fast-approaching! Educate yourself further by attending a panel discussion surrounding the influence of race in shaping the presidential race. Panelists include Elizabeth Wellington, Philadelphia Inquirer columnist; Timothy Welbeck, director of Temple’s Center for Anti-Racism; Ethan Tan, director of data and analytics for Pennsylvania Voice, a nonprofit committed to promoting inclusive democracy in Pennsylvania; and Professor Srimati Mukherjee, a Temple scholar offering perspectives from her Indian identity. Faculty of Color member and director of ACCORD David W. Brown will serve as the moderator, and attendees will be provided the opportunity to participate in the session’s Q&A!
