Tim O'Rourke, VP for computer services and CIO retires; interim named

Tim O'Rourke, VP for Computer Services and CIO, joined Temple in 1984 as controller and was named VP/CIO in 2002. His technology accomplishments include the creation and design of the TECH Center, replacement of core administrative systems with Banner, large scale upgrades of our telephone system and expansion of wireless access. He has also managed Temple's academic and administrative computing, state-of-the-art telecommunications and data center infrastructure, the TECH Center, and the 24-hour help desk. Under his leadership, the university created the Computer Recycling Center which has become an award-winning operation that manages the redeployment of refurbished technology to the schools in our community and disposes of old technology.

In 2012, O'Rourke was recognized as a top CIO for his effective budget, people, and resource management and named one of the best technology management leaders by ExecRank. And most recently, he led the Accessible Technology Initiative that features liaisons in all schools and colleges and an oversight committee that monitors compliance with university guidelines. This program has put Temple at the forefront of university-wide accessibility initiatives nationwide. Other technology accolades during his tenure include being ranked #4 in Princeton Review's America's Most Connected Campuses and being recognized by Computerworld as one of the Best Places to Work in IT for seven years in a row.

During his thirty plus years at Temple, O'Rourke not only provided exemplary service as an administrator, he also taught accounting in the Fox School of Business and will continue to do so. O'Rourke earned his MBA from The Fox School.

Provost Hai-Lung Dai has announced that Barbara Dolhansky will serve as interim VP for Computer Services and CIO effective April 1, 2015. Associate vice president since 2003, and director of Computer Services for six years, Dolhansky has led and implemented large scale technology projects and provided strategic direction for enterprise resource planning, application systems, business intelligence, portal technology and identity management.

A national search for a permanent VP/CIO will be conducted in 2015-16. Reporting to the provost, the VP/CIO will be responsible for ensuring efficient and secure operation of all computer, application, networking and telecommunications systems.
