Center for the Arts Reorganization

Following the Board of Trustees' approvals yesterday, the Center for the Arts has been renamed the Center for the Performing and Cinematic Arts and includes Boyer College of Music and Dance and the newly named School of Theater, Film and Media Arts. Tyler School of Art is now an independent school. These actions reflect the university's support for disciplinary synergy and an environment in which fine and performing arts continue to thrive.

Robert Stroker, dean of the Boyer College of Music and Dance, also serves as dean of the School of Theater, Film and Media Arts and vice provost for the Center. Hester Stinnett, appointed interim dean of Tyler on Sept. 1, 2015, will continue to serve in this capacity. A national search for a dean for Tyler is underway with an appointment expected in 2016.

Over the last several years, faculty, students and alumni of the Center for the Arts have received many prestigious awards. They include two Pew Grants in 2015, numerous Grammy and Oscar Awards and nominations, Fulbright Scholarships, Guggenheim Fellowships, Bessie Awards, ASTA National Solo Competition, and inclusion in the Venice Biennale.

Under Stroker's outstanding leadership, we expect the newly named school and center to flourish. Stroker was instrumental in Tyler's continuing achievement and national prominence over the last three years, and we are sure this tradition of excellence will carry on under Stinnett's leadership.
