SEPTA Workers Are on Strike
Updated Nov. 7, 2016
Today, SEPTA and Transport Workers Union Local 234 City Transit Division reached a contract agreement. Service on city buses, subways and trolleys is starting to return today, with full service expected Tuesday morning.
The shuttle service Temple has provided to students, faculty, staff and health system employees will continue through the end of the regular schedule tonight at 10, when operations will finish. Therefore, plan on taking city transit or other transportation tomorrow if you have been using the shuttles during the strike.
Visit SEPTA’s website for additional service details.

Updated Nov. 4, 2016: Change in location of the City Hall/JFK Boulevard shuttle stop (see below)
SEPTA city buses, subways and trolleys are not in service because of a strike by the Transport Workers Union Local 234 City Transit Division. This work stoppage does not impact regional rail service.
As with past SEPTA strikes, Temple University will be open for business as usual, and all classes and events will be held as scheduled. Employees will be expected to report to work on time to ensure uninterrupted service to students and patients. Talk with your supervisor if you have questions about expectations.
We also encourage you to review SEPTA’s website, especially the transit agency’s service interruption guide, and plan alternate arrangements for your travel, such as carpooling.
Temple has made plans to help minimize the effects of a service interruption for members of the university community, including supplementary shuttle services and reduced-rate parking.
Shuttle services
In addition to existing intercampus shuttles between Main, the Health Sciences Center and Ambler campuses—which will continue to operate—Temple has joined a local consortium to offer free, supplementary shuttle service to students, faculty and staff who present valid OWLcards or Health System IDs when boarding.
Shuttles will operate daily, starting Tuesday, Nov. 1, from 6 a.m. to 11 a.m. and from 3 p.m. to 10 p.m. Shuttles are expected to pass stops every 20 to 30 minutes. Be sure to look for buses with a window sign that states, “Private shuttle, Temple and hotels.” There will be no pickups between 11 a.m. and 3 p.m. or after 10 p.m.
Additionally, note that shuttle passengers traveling east (from Upper Darby/West Philadelphia) will be let off at the Municipal Services Building (1401 John F. Kennedy Blvd.) and will need to walk one block to the southeast corner of Broad and Arch streets to transfer to the north-south shuttle. Passengers coming from the Health Sciences Center or Main Campus will be let off at the Municipal Services Building to board the westbound shuttle.
If you are heading north, wait on the southwest corner.
If you are heading south, wait on the southeast corner.
