Ethics and Compliance Office and new helpline available
Dear staff and faculty:
As the 2018-19 school year comes to an end, I want to thank you for all you do for Temple University. Also, I want to call your attention to the important role of the Ethics and Compliance Office, which provides all members of the Temple community with the resources and guidance needed to uphold the highest standards of integrity.
This office, led by Chief Compliance Officer Alejandro (Alex) Diaz, underscores our commitment to fostering a culture of integrity and ethical behavior. He came to us in December 2018 with both a strong legal background and extensive experience at large institutions, including serving as the vice president of global compliance at Eaton Corporation and the chief ethics and compliance officer at Coca-Cola Enterprises. In those roles, he designed and implemented compliance programs, led training efforts and risk management and improved reporting mechanisms for employees. For the past months, he has been focusing on such matters as integrity of data reporting and understanding the operations of our university.
Ensuring an open environment where all are free to speak up without fear of retaliation is an important next step. To that end, the office is introducing an anonymous helpline for all members of the Temple community. It is a resource for asking questions about ethical issues or reporting ethical concerns. The Temple University Ethics and Compliance Helpline, which is a confidential channel hosted by EthicsPoint, can be accessed online or by phone at 844-755-3394 around the clock, seven days a week. I encourage you to use it with the understanding that it is a third party service which guarantees confidentiality and anonymity.
This office supplements long-standing resources at our university and will collaborate with Internal Audits, Human Resources, Campus Safety Services, the Equal Opportunity Compliance Office, Athletics and others. You can learn more on the Ethics and Compliance website.
I’d like to formally thank and acknowledge the significant work of Alejandro and his team, and thank everyone at Temple who is working to make our university an even stronger and more exceptional place to learn and work.
