Ronald Anderson to step down as Fox and STHM dean following this year

Dear Colleagues,

I am writing to let you know that Ronald Anderson will be stepping down as dean of the Fox School of Business and School of Sport, Tourism and Hospitality Management on June 30, 2023. At that time, he will return to the finance faculty, and will conclude a five-year term as dean of both schools.

Ron took on the role of dean of Temple’s largest school and college at an exceptionally challenging time. In July 2018 when he was first named dean, the school was in need of a calm, steadying voice to lead it forward. Ron was able to provide all of that and more. Over the past four years, he has helped guide the school through unprecedented challenges and uncertainty and worked to regain the trust of peers and rebuild the school’s reputation.

Ron successfully led Fox through its AACSB reaccreditation process and, along with his Fox and STHM colleagues, developed and implemented forward-looking strategic plans. He continued to prioritize educational innovation as evidenced by Fox offering an MBA-level course in virtual reality, which garnered considerable attention from prominent news outlets, including U.S. News & World Report, the Philadelphia Inquirer, and the Wall Street Journal. Under Ron’s leadership, Fox and STHM showed their commitment to diversity, equity and inclusion by launching the Center for Ethics, Diversity and Workplace Culture, a new hub for research, dialogue and innovation.

Over the next academic year, Ron will continue in his role as dean of Fox and STHM as we begin a national search for his successor. We are grateful to Ron for his continued commitment to Temple, Fox and STHM and pleased that he will continue to serve through the year ahead, as this provides the university ample time to find a highly qualified successor and ensure a smooth transition process.

As he moves back to the faculty, Ron will once again be able to pursue his research and teaching interests. He is one of the leading experts in internal control systems, corporate governance and executive compensation, and he has received numerous research and teaching excellence awards during his academic career.

Please join me in thanking Ron for his outstanding and continuing service to Fox, STHM and Temple University.

Sincerely,

Gregory N. Mandel
