Update on air quality
To the Temple community,
As you are likely aware, the city of Philadelphia is currently under a Code Red Fine Particles Action Day Alert due to smoke from wildfires in Canada.
Out of an abundance of caution, Temple University has decided to close Geasey Outdoor Field Complex and the Temple Sports Complex for the remainder of today, June 7. Athletics has also moved all of its outdoor activities indoors.
We strongly encourage members of the Temple community to take the following precautions to protect themselves for the remainder of the day.
- If you have to go outdoors, wear a high-quality mask (N-95 or KN-95).
- Avoid highways, main streets and other areas where pollution may be high.
- Close all windows and doors.
- Use fans to recirculate air while at home.
- If you notice that you are having trouble breathing or feel nauseous, seek medical attention immediately.
We continue to monitor guidance from Philadelphia’s Department of Public Health and its Office of Emergency Management. The forecast for tomorrow indicates that the air quality is expected to improve to the moderate level, but we will update the Temple community in case that changes.
Thank you for doing your part to help keep yourself and others safe.
Sincerely,
Mark Denys
