Early morning incident
To the Temple community,
We are saddened to report the Philadelphia Police Department is investigating an overnight fatal shooting near campus that claimed the life of a male victim. A recent Temple graduate was also shot and she is being treated at Temple University Hospital for non-life threatening injuries.
Early this morning, at approximately 1:30 a.m., Temple University Police Department (TUPD) officers responded to gunshots to the 1700 block of Cecil B. Moore Avenue. TUPD officers found two individuals, one male and one female with gunshot wounds. TUPD immediately transferred the victims to our hospital.
The Office of the Dean of Students is reaching out to the alumni to ensure they have access to counseling and other trauma-informed resources. We also want to ensure our Temple community is supported during this difficult time. We encourage students to contact Tuttleman Counseling Services, located at 1700 N. Broad St. For information, call 215-204-7276 or visit the Tuttleman Counseling Services website.
While Philadelphia Police Department is investigating, we urge all members of the Temple community to contact Temple Police at 215-204-1234 if they have any details on this crime or need more information regarding the university’s available safety resources. This includes TUAlerts, which first reported this incident at 1:34 a.m. Information on TUAlerts are available here.
Sincerely,
Jennifer D. Griffin
Vice President of Public Safety at Temple University
