Incident at Broad St. and Cecil B. Moore Avenue
To the Temple community,
Temple University’s Department of Public Safety (DPS) and the Philadelphia Police Department Central Detectives Division are investigating a shots fired incident that occurred today at Broad Street and Cecil B. Moore Avenue at approximately 4:30 p.m. A security officer was across the street when the incident occurred and immediately notified the DPS Communications Center, which quickly dispatched police officers to the scene. There were no injuries or damage to property reported.
At this point, the investigation reveals that two groups of juveniles were in the area and discharged multiple shots in the direction of each other. DPS was able to capture the incident on camera, which occurred in less than five seconds. The two groups were observed fleeing the area on foot and a witness reports they may have also fled in a vehicle.
The captured pictures will be used in the investigation to identify the suspects. DPS has reached out to the Philadelphia School District for assistance in identifying the suspects. There will be an increased presence of Temple Police Officers, Detectives, Bike Patrols and Philadelphia Police Officers in the area of the incident. TUPD Detectives and Philadelphia Police are following all investigative leads.
We ask that anyone who was in the area and witnessed the incident or the group involved, to please contact 204-215-1234, or send an email to Police@Temple.edu. We remind all members of the Temple community to familiarize themselves with the university’s available safety resources. More information about these resources can be found at safety.temple.edu.
