Temple University will close for winter break at 5 p.m. on Friday, Dec. 22, 2023, and reopen on Tuesday, Jan. 2, 2024. Students and employees from graduate and professional schools should refer to their school’s academic calendar for more specific scheduling information. Essential personnel should check with their supervisor to coordinate schedules throughout the break.
Students remaining on campus
- Residence Halls will close for winter break on Wednesday, Dec. 20 at 7 p.m. and reopen for the start of the spring semester on Saturday, Jan. 13, 2024, at 10 a.m.
- Students needing to request an end-of-semester housing extension or wishing to stay in housing over winter break for a fee can do so through the MyHousing website via TUportal.

- Spring meal plans will begin with dinner on Saturday, Jan. 13, 2024.
- Students are encouraged to use the Walking Escort Program, available daily from 4 p.m. to 6 a.m. Call 8-WALK (8-9255) from a campus phone or 215-777-9255 to request a security escort.
- The Flight Shuttle service will operate on a modified schedule during winter break. There will be no service on Dec. 24, Dec. 25, and Dec. 31.
- Some parking areas may be closed or have modified hours. Please review the latest winter break schedule for detailed information for parking on each campus.

Students living off-campus are encouraged to review the Public Safety website for tips before leaving for winter break and available services if staying in your residence.
Main Campus Facilities
- TECH Center will be closed starting Friday, Dec. 22 at 5 p.m. and will reopen Tuesday, Jan. 2, 2024, at 8:30 a.m.
- Charles Library will operate 8 a.m. – 2 a.m. Monday, Dec. 18 and Tuesday, Dec. 19, and 8 a.m. – 5 p.m. Wednesday, Dec. 20 through Friday, Dec. 22. University Libraries will be closed for winter break and will reopen on Tuesday, Jan. 2, 2024.
- Howard Gittis Student Center will be closed starting Friday, Dec. 22 at 6 p.m. and will reopen Tuesday, Jan. 2, 2024, at 8 a.m. Please note the front doors will be open 8:30 a.m. – 4:30 p.m., Tuesday, Dec. 26 through Friday, Dec. 29, ONLY for access to the Philadelphia Federal Credit Union.
Health Sciences Center (HSC)
- Medical Education and Research Building (MERB) will be open and accessible via OWLcard swipe. Access to Kresge Science Hall (including Kresge West) and the Medical Research Building (MRB) will be through MERB.
- Pharmacy Building will be closed, but accessible via OWLcard swipe; entry must be reported to Temple Police.
- Old Dental School Building will be closed Friday, Dec. 22 and Friday, Dec. 29, but will be accessible via OWLcard swipe. Entry must be reported to Temple Police.
- Kornberg School of Dentistry Building (including clinical operations) will be closed starting Friday, Dec. 22 at 5 p.m. and will reopen for normal business operations Tuesday, Jan. 2, 2024, at 8 a.m.
- Student Faculty Center will be closed starting Friday, Dec. 22 at 6 p.m. and will reopen Tuesday, Jan. 2, 2024, at 6:30 a.m.
- Temple Faculty Physicians will remain open during the winter break; this includes the practices in the Medical Office Building, Jones Hall, and the Old Dental School Building.
Ambler, Center City, Harrisburg, and Podiatric Medicine (including the Foot and Ankle Institute and satellite clinical practices) facilities will be closed from the end of business on Friday, Dec. 22, until Tuesday, Jan. 2, 2024, except to authorized/essential personnel. Scheduled patient activity at The Infant Lab and Prosthetic Clinic on the Ambler Campus will remain open and on the regular patient schedule. The Ambler Arboretum will remain open daily from dawn to dusk.
University Operations
- Mail will not be picked up or delivered during winter break. Please do not leave any shipments in UPS drop-off boxes and if you are expecting a package to be delivered by an express delivery service, please let the sender know exactly where and when you will be on campus to receive the shipment. Do not order items requiring refrigeration or other forms of special handling that may arrive during winter break.
- Email and voicemail notifications should be setup to let your colleagues and contacts know that you are out of the office. For more information, see the Microsoft Outlook instructions. You can also record an extended absence voice message on your phone and easily remove it after your time off. For more information, see the voicemail setup instructions. Note: you will need your AccessNet username and password to access these resources.
