Incident earlier this morning

To the Temple community,

Earlier this morning, at approximately 7:15 a.m., Temple University Police Officers responded to reports of an assault in the 1000 block of Montgomery Avenue. Upon arriving at the scene, they found that a Temple employee had been stabbed once in the right arm in an unprovoked incident by an individual who appeared to be in mental distress.

The suspect in the stabbing fled East on Montgomery towards 8th Street following the incident. Temple Police have reviewed camera footage and are currently surveilling the area. The footage and the description of the assailant have also been shared with the Philadelphia Police Department, which is assisting in the investigation.

Thankfully, the employee is alert and conscious and has been transported to Temple Hospital for further treatment.

The safety of our students, faculty and staff is our top priority. We are grateful for the efforts of our police officers, who responded swiftly.

As we return for the spring semester, we want to remind all members of the Temple community to familiarize themselves with the university’s available safety resources. More information on these can be found at safety.temple.edu

If you have not already done so, we also encourage you to download and use the TUSafe app to request emergency services or walking escorts.

Finally, we urge all members of the Temple community to contact Temple Police at 215-204-1234 if they have any details on this crime or need more information regarding the university’s available safety resources.

Best regards,
