Announcing the Temple Promise

Dear Colleagues,

In keeping with our mission of access and excellence, we are pleased to announce a new program that will make a world-class Temple education more affordable for admitted students with high financial need. We call it the Temple Promise.

Initially available to qualifying admitted first-year students from Philadelphia County whose family adjusted gross income is $65,000 or less and who meet the other qualifying criteria, the Temple Promise is a new last-dollar financial aid grant program designed to make a Temple education more accessible and affordable for the best and brightest students regardless of financial means. Beginning with the 2024–2025 academic year, the program will close the financial gap for families of new first-year, full-time undergraduate students after other financial aid awards are applied toward in-state undergraduate tuition and eligible fees.

Higher education serves a crucial role as an economic driver in the city and across the commonwealth of Pennsylvania. Last week, Governor Josh Shapiro released his blueprint for higher education, prioritizing access, affordability and higher education’s role as an engine of economic and social mobility. The Temple Promise reinforces the university’s long history of success in these areas. Additionally, Mayor Cherelle L. Parker’s priorities align with this vision, advocating for educational programs as a solution to address the challenges of Philadelphia families.

We are proud to offer this support to our future students and their families. This initiative embodies our fundamental mission of providing broad access for talented students to the kind of education available at a comprehensive research institution.

We encourage you to read this News Center story and see responses to frequently asked questions on the program’s webpage.
