An update on Temple's strategic plan

Dear members of the Temple community,

I am writing to share an update about Temple’s strategic plan, which represents the efforts and input of many faculty, students and staff, including the Strategic Planning Steering Committee and the Faculty Senate Steering Committee. From the outset of the planning process in 2020, the strategic plan was meant to be dynamic. Now, with more than a year of experience since its launch in Fall 2022 and with input from many stakeholders, we have decided to make adjustments to stay focused on the priorities and initiatives that will yield the best outcomes for our Temple community. I want to highlight some of the changes and successes over the last year, but I encourage you to read through the updated plan for the details and to learn more about the significant progress we have made.

Highlights of initiatives that are well underway include, Enrollment Optimization and Constituent Relationship Management (part of the university’s efforts to strengthen enrollment and student success), Financial Aid ProgramGeneral Education ReformInterdisciplinary CollaborationMental Health and WellnessResearch InnovationCommunity Gateway DEI HubDean Reviews, and Shared Governance.

We have also made some focused changes to the priorities and initiatives:

Educational Value has been renamed Educational Excellence and will continue to focus on delivering a future-oriented and interdisciplinary curriculum that leads to career readiness, active citizenship, personal growth, leadership and impact.

We have replaced Reputational Excellence with Foundation for Tomorrow and will examine and enhance university-wide systems, infrastructure, and marketing and communications, through careful analysis and data-driven decision-making to position the Temple community for success now and in the future.

Despite some adjustments, our objectives remain focused on the mission of our university. I am proud of the work that continues to build on our history and legacy of excellence. With immense gratitude, I want to acknowledge the teams of people who have committed countless hours and care to advancing this work. There are meaningful and impactful outcomes that will result from this strategic plan, and I look forward to working alongside our Temple community to move us forward.
