Incident near 1400 block of West Oxford Street
To the Temple community,
Last night, just after 10 p.m., Temple University’s Department of Public Safety issued a TUalert in response to a shooting reported on the 1400 block of West Oxford Street, which is located off campus but within the university’s patrol zone. An altercation occurred inside a business establishment, which then spilled into the street where shots were fired. Temple University police officers and Philadelphia Police Department (PPD) officers responded immediately, arriving at the establishment to prevent further incident. No members of the Temple community were involved in the shooting.
Keeping the Temple community safe is our No. 1 priority, and part of that responsibility is ensuring that we keep the community informed and connected. We appreciate the efforts of university police officers and PPD officers, who held the scene and ultimately cleared it just before 11 p.m. Presently, there is one victim who was transported and is being treated at Temple University Hospital.
While the PPD detectives are leading this investigation, anyone with information regarding this crime should contact PPD or Temple Police at 215-204-1234. We also encourage all members of the Temple community to stay updated regarding the university’s available safety resources.
Best regards,
Jennifer D. Griffin
