An update following yesterday’s tragedy
Dear Students and Colleagues,
Earlier this morning, we shared news regarding the tragic loss of a Temple University student. We can now share that Chase Myles, an undergraduate student in the Klein College of Media and Communication, was shot and killed off campus in the vicinity of the 1500 block of North Carlisle Street.
Details regarding this incident continue to materialize, but what we understand at this time is that both Chase and the suspected shooter were known to one another and planned to meet last night.
The loss of any life is a tragedy, but that is especially true when the loss is that of a bright and engaged student like Chase. A native of Bowie, Maryland, Chase was well-known to his peers at Klein and was respected by faculty and staff alike.
There is no doubt that Chase was a deeply valued member of our community, which is what makes delivering this news especially difficult. The loss of his life leaves a significant void within Temple and Klein.
In the days and weeks to come, we ask that the members of the Temple community continue to lean on one another for support. If you are struggling, do not hesitate to ask for help. We are all here for one another.
Specifically, students can seek out support and guidance through Tuttleman Counseling Services. For faculty and staff, our Employee Assistance Program is available 24/7.
We have been in contact with Chase’s family and are presently working with both Klein and the Division of Student Affairs to find ways to honor his memory. We will share more details as we have them. In the meantime, please take care of yourselves and one another.
We want to extend our heartfelt condolences to Chase’s family, friends, and all who knew and loved him. He will be deeply missed.
Sincerely,
John Fry
