Extended holiday weekend

Dear Students and Colleagues,

Next week we will celebrate Independence Day, a time to reflect on our nation’s founding right here in our country’s birthplace. In the year ahead, our city will take its place on the world stage when we commemorate the 250th anniversary of the signing of the Declaration of Independence—the Semiquincentennial. As Philadelphia’s public research university, we can draw inspiration from this historic milestone which offers a unique opportunity to honor where we’ve been, engage with the challenges of the present and envision possibilities for the future.

With Independence Day falling on a Friday this year, we will close the university and cancel classes on Thursday, July 3, to allow our students, faculty and staff additional time to enjoy the holiday weekend. This is a small token of my appreciation for your dedication and hard work this year. Essential employees and those at the Lewis Katz School of Medicine, the School of Podiatric Medicine, the Kornberg School of Dentistry, the School of Pharmacy and within the nursing program in the College of Public Health should check with their supervisors for guidance regarding scheduling, clinics and other activities.

Please enjoy a relaxing holiday weekend with family and friends.

Sincerely,

John Fry
President
