Welcome, Temple students, to the fall semester

Dear Temple students,

Welcome—or welcome back—to Temple! Whether this is your first semester or your last, you are part of a community that’s here to help you succeed, take care of yourself and make the most of every moment.

This fall is packed with ways to get involved.

  1. Weeks of Welcome brings concerts, service projects, late-night events and plenty of chances to meet new friends.
  2. Temple Athletics are in full swing this fall: From football at Lincoln Financial Field to basketball at the Liacouras Center, cheering on the Owls in cherry and white is one of the best ways to show your school pride.
  3. Homecoming and Family Weekend (October) is one of our biggest traditions, with a pep rally, Step Show, tailgates and of course the football game.
  4. On Thursday we wear cherry and white! Rock your Temple gear every Thursday. We kick things off this Thursday, Aug. 28, from 11:30 a.m. to 1 p.m. at the Bell Tower with our first cherry and white event!
  5. And don’t forget to check TUportal for campus happenings every week!

Your success, your resources: Temple’s mission is simple: Give every Owl the tools, support and community to thrive. Here’s where to start.

  1. The One Stop Student Services Center is for financial aid, billing and course registration.
  2. The Student Success Center offers tutoring, PASS, academic coaching and writing support.

Well‑being and Wraparound Support

  1. Dean of Students Office—The dean’s office is here to help students navigate life at the institution. Reach out if there are any issues or concerns!
  2. CARE Team—The CARE Team (Crisis, Assessment, Response, Education) is comprised of diverse representatives from key student support offices across the university (ex. Tuttleman Counseling Services, Disability Resources and Services, TUPD, etc.).
  3. Cherry Pantry—The Cherry Pantry has become a cornerstone of Temple’s basic needs support offerings.
  4. Temple’s Health and Well-being Division—Provides mental and physical health services and well-being educational programing for all members of the Temple community.
  5. Togetherall—A safe and anonymous online peer community to support mental health.
  6. WellTrack—An online self-directed therapy experience for managing depression and anxiety.
  7. Let’s Talk—An in-person, free and informal program that provides confidential consultations with a counselor at multiple sites around campus.

Tips to Make Temple Yours

  1. Get connected. Join a club, hit an event or try something new. You’ll meet your people faster than you think.
  2. Use the help that’s here. From tutoring to advising, One Stop to counseling, there’s always a place to go.
  3. Take care of yourself. Success isn’t just academic—it’s mental, physical and emotional, too.
  4. Ask early, ask often. The Dean of Students Office is your go-to when you’re not sure where to start.
  5. Say yes to Philly. Internships, service, food, culture—our city is an extension of your classroom.

At Temple, when you’re connected, supported and engaged, you’ll go further than you ever imagined.

Take care of yourselves and each other. All of us in Student Affairs are here to back you up and cheer you on every step of the way.

Here’s to a fantastic semester—Go Owls!

Sincerely,

Jodi Bailey Accavallo
Vice President for Student Affairs
