Cause of low sex drive hard to pinpoint in women

Decreased libido affects four out of 10 women and many are too embarrassed to address the problem with their doctor. “It’s important for health care providers to screen their patients for low sex drive,” said Temple gynecologist Marissa Rose. They should ask patients “Do you feel you have normal desire? Do you experience pain during sex?” Once this is determined you can figure out the best remedy.

A scientific explanation for cats’ role on the Internet

Why are cats so popular on the Internet? Miles Orvell, a cultural historian at Temple who specializes in visual culture, said that what the Internet has done is leverage a preexisting fascination. “There’s a contagious effect of the Internet where something that is there as a latent possibility can emerge at large in society,” he said. “It’s not so much creating this interest in cats, it’s more exploiting this interest that was already there.”

For CFOs, better to win small than big

It can be better to win small than to win big - at least for CFOs who want larger bonuses. In a groundbreaking paper to appear in a coming issue of Accounting Horizons, Steven Balsam of Temple’s Fox School of Business and others looked at the impact of various factors on CFO salaries and bonuses. They were surprised to find how much more lucrative it can get for CFOs that just squeak by, as opposed to astound Wall Street.

Temple's Peddy named A-10 player of year

Temple senior Shey Peddy was named the 2012 Atlantic 10 women's basketball Player of the Year and Defensive Player of the Year. Peddy is the first student-athlete to garner dual honors since Temple's Candice Dupree. Peddy, the Owls' leading scorer, has 1,794 career points.

Moulder and Wistar drug discovery partnership

The Moulder Center for Drug Discovery Research at Temple’s School of Pharmacy has formed a partnership with The Wistar Institute to accelerate the development of new drug therapies. Moulder director Magid Abou-Gharbia said researchers will work together to “apply our drug discovery expertise and state-of-the-art enabling technologies to explore new targets in several therapeutic areas.”
