Facing a shortage of park rangers, the National Park Service sought out Temple University to create an innovative, four-year, paid internship program called ProRanger Philadelphia. This summer, participating Temple student interns have served as law enforcement rangers at eight different national parks in the northeast. Temple student intern Lytia Solomon was drawn to the program during her freshman year because she wanted a realistic career path after spending many years focused on music. "It's a big change," Solomon said in a widely distributed Associated Press story. "I'm in it for the long run. I really love law enforcement. I love helping people, and I love interacting with people." Temple was chosen for its nationally ranked criminal justice program and for its diversity, officials said.
