It's part of Philadelphia history and now it has a fresh look. Mayor Michael Nutter officially reopened the Baptist Temple at Temple University. The building underwent a two-year, $30 million renovation. It's part of a plan to revitalize North Broad Street. The building housed a Baptist church and was where folks filled the seats to hear Dr. Martin Luther King, Jr. speak. According to executive director Charles Bethea, the ornate structure even helped name the then newly-founded university. "When they built the building next door, the first Temple college building, they were talking about naming the college, we were told that the students said we already have a name, it's on the top of your church. That's how Temple got the name," Bethea said.
