Census estimates released Thursday show that Philadelphia's population continues to grow. In 2012, the city added 9,040 people, the sixth consecutive year of growth. While more people "contribute to greater income, spending, tax revenue, and vibrancy," Philadelphia lacks the industries that would attract large increases of workers from around the country, said David Elesh, an urban sociologist at Temple. "Most of our growth has to come from foreign immigration," he said.
