Cable created a venue for kids to watch themselves acting like kids. This marked an important shift in how kids were portrayed. “Nickelodeon first came up with its ‘Kids Rule’ slogan quite purposefully in the early ’90s,” said David Cooper Moore, a media expert at Temple. “This necessarily transformed kid actors from subservient to adult programs to perceived ‘rebels’ acting out against authority.”
