In search of a new generation of park rangers — particularly at national parks on the East Coast — the National Park Service and Temple joined forces to create the ProRanger Philadelphia program, which has placed 13 student interns at eight national parks in the region. Temple's urban location, diversity and strong criminal justice program attracted the park service. Rachel Brown, director of Temple's Career Center, thinks it's a perfect match. She said that more than 75 percent of the graduating students from Temple remain in the Philadelphia area. Recruiting them into the National Park Service could help staff urban locations, but it could also "broaden their horizons" to work elsewhere in the country, she said.
