“Whether you think S.B. 1070 is good policy or not, everyone should understand why the Arizona Legislature enacted it and why the Supreme Court is likely to uphold it,” said Jan Ting a professor at Temple’s Beasley School of Law, in a counterpoint piece. Illegal immigrants comprise about 400,000 of Arizona’s 6.4 million residents, which has caused a crisis over the cost of education, health care and law enforcement. The challenge to the bill hinges on whether it conflicts with federal immigration law.
