Following a coaching legend, Dunphy making legacy of his own

Like his predecessor John Chaney, Temple basketball coach Fran Dunphy has a reputation for pushing his players hard. "In practice, when he is yelling, the only thing to do is play better," said sophomore Khalif Wyatt. "That's his method of making us mentally tough." Dunphy looks for players who can handle that type of environment. It's not enough that someone plays well. "Character is a critical piece," Dunphy said. The results show on the court — the Owls are in Atlantic City to begin a quest for their fourth consecutive Atlantic-10 tournament title.
