Fuel mileage estimates are questioned

The EPA-created methodology for determining automobile fuel mileage has been questioned since tests are done by the automakers and not the EPA. Temple mechanical engineer Richard Cohen says standardization in conducting the tests is needed. “I can’t think of any other way to do it because, once you define the system, the auto companies can game it, and of course they can game this system somewhat as well,” said Cohen.
