While Penn State officials failed in their duty to report allegations of child abuse, they also did not comply with the Clery Act. Jeanne Clery's murder 25 years ago on the campus of Lehigh University sparked a crusade to transform safety on college campuses. "Like every university we have a set of protocols that uses the Clery Act as a guideline to tell us how and when and where we need to be advising students to help keep them safe," said Ray Betzner, Temple's assistant vice president for communications. Temple students are notified by email, phone calls and text messages of crimes they need to be aware of.
