Fred Nelson can picture it as if it was, well, not yesterday. But he can picture it. As a 14-year-old, he jumped a gate behind old Temple Stadium in East Mount Airy and watched the Owls beat Penn State in 1941. They haven't beaten the Nittany Lions since. Nelson stayed a fan of Temple sports despite sending a son and daughter to State College (two of his five children graduated from Temple). Now 84 and living in Plymouth Meeting, Nelson plans to watch Saturday's game on TV since his wife has had health problems, and he doesn't get around as quickly as he used to. "I'll be rooting for Temple," Nelson said in a front-page Inquirer story. "The heck with those Penn Staters."
