Japanese majority favors gradual exit from nuclear power

Fukushima shattered Japan's myth that nuclear energy was cheap, clean and safe. Opinion polls show about three-quarters of the public favor at least a gradual exit from nuclear power. But many voters appear to be losing hope that their opinions matter. "I don't think that people believe in democracy much," said Jeffrey Kingston, director of Asian studies at Temple University, Japan Campus. "A lot of people are turned off by politics."
