To limit health care costs, limit benefits for legislators

A special three-day report in the Bucks County Courier Times has uncovered that medical benefits for legislators in Pennsylvania are far more generous than what is found in the private sector, yet employers are requiring their employees to shoulder more of the cost. The lack of plan restrictions is one reason the legislative premiums are higher, suggested Thomas Getzen, a professor of risk, insurance and health management for Temple's Fox School of Business. "They're paying extra to not have to hassle or worry about anything," Getzen said.
