More than half of the park ranger positions in the Northeast will be vacant in the next five years. So the National Park Service turned to Temple to create ProRanger Philadelphia, a summer internship and job-training program. Participating students worked as interns at eight different parks this summer from New Jersey to Virginia. Rachel Brown, director of Temple's Career Center, likes the way the program — which is open to all majors — encourages students to broaden their horizons. "We want people to think broadly, particularly in this economy," she said in the Herald's "Environment" blog.
