Military suicides and accidental deaths overshadow combat deaths

With suicides and accidental deaths outnumbering combat-related deaths among the military, could a soldier's thrill-seeking personality be a factor? Frank Farley of Temple's College of Education believes it's unlikely. "We might normally expect high suicide rates in the military, given the often high levels of stress, anxiety, transitions, uncertainty and threat, economic and career issues, personal loss, (and) isolation and separation from loved ones, family and friends," wrote Farley, who has studied risk-taking personalities.
