Motown course teaches students lessons about power of music, branding
After more than half a century, the Motown sound still inspires. A handful of scholars around the nation are teaching the music, history and business of Motown, including Frank Johnson, an instructor in Temple's College of Liberal Arts. Students, Johnson says, can learn a lot about building a brand identity from Motown. "Consistency, positioning in new markets and innovation of the brand is a takeaway lesson from Motown," he said. "A Motown groove hooked you within the first 20 seconds of the song. This was consistent across their productions."
