The founding fathers weren't the only revolutionaries in 18th century America, says Temple historian Susan Klepp. Another revolution, led primarily by women, "would begin to transform women's lives, reshape marriage and provide opportunities for daughters," she said. While Colonial American women were unable to own property, they were able to exert influence over family affairs. They used that influence to redefine motherhood and family planning.
