For most college students moving into dorms at area colleges, "decor" is usually the expected: a comforter from home or one specially purchased to match a roommate's, a bulletin board for family photos, a random poster or two, stuffed animals or a few throw pillows, a desk lamp, and maybe some storage bins that can be pushed under the bed. Then there are students who revel in being quirky. Doing something no one else is doing is the goal. Administrators said they've stopped being surprised at what's in among those who dare to be different with their dorm decor. "Just when you think you've seen it all, something else comes up," said Kevin Williams, director of residential life at Temple. "I remember one student had a full band set up in their room with a stage and a speaker system."
