Inquirer columnist Phil Sheridan enjoyed the big-time college football atmosphere on Friday night at the Linc, where more than 32,000 fans gathered to watch Temple's thrilling victory over Villanova. "There were a lot of irrelevant games in college football this weekend," Temple coach Al Golden said after his team came back for a stunning late win. "That was not one of them. This is going to be a great game for years to come." Golden applauded the "courage" of administrators at both programs — singling out Temple Athletic Director Bill Bradshaw — to schedule a game that some people believe contains more risk than reward for the teams. The only losers, wrote Sheridan, were fans who chose to stay at home.
