Spurred by a family history of hypertension, Michael Brown is working to combat high blood pressure in African Americans. Brown, a Temple kinesiologist, is studying the effect of exercise on blood pressure control. "We focus on blood pressure control and trying to get those things that cause blood pressure to go high improved through exercise and diet," said Brown, who is an associate professor at Temple. The hands-on project, which is geared towards men and women between the ages of 40 and 75, enrolls participants for a period of approximately 10 months. Three days a week, study participants head to Pearson Hall on Temple's Main Campus where they undergo an exercise routine designed to improve their cardiovascular health.
