People across the nation have had to identify their race in the 2010 census forms due May 1 to the U.S. Census Bureau. Matt Wray, associate professor of sociology at Temple University, said race in this country isn't black or white anymore. There are a lot of shades in between brought by immigration, interracial marriages and American history. He added that although the purpose of the census is to get America's head count, it's politically driven. Ethnic groups' leaders lobby to be addressed in certain ways that would benefit their perspective group at that time. "The process is political not logical or sociological," Wray said.
