Reuters: TUJ expert on former Japanese PM's mischief
Former Japanese Prime Minister Yukio Hatoyama keeps grabbing headlines with controversial comments that are adding to his successor's already considerable woes. Hatoyama is irritated by Premier Naoto Kan for shifting policy gears with talk of a possible sales tax hike to fix public finances, free trade deals and focusing on the U.S.-Japan alliance rather than Asian ties. "It's a bit of a payback," said Jeffrey Kingston, director of Asian studies at Temple University, Japan Campus.
