Sit up straight to prevent injury

Every year, more than 600,000 Americans miss work because of injuries related to poor posture, and anyone who spends more than 95 percent of their workday sitting is at risk. To quell those rising numbers, some experts yearn for the days when parents paid as much attention to their children's carriage as to their grades and after-school activities. "We should remind ourselves and our kids to stop slouching," says Emily Keshner, chair of the Department of Physical Therapy at Temple. "Maintaining good posture yields better health outcomes."
