The efforts of architecture instructor Dennis Playdon and his students to save Joe Frazier's Gym in North Philadelphia were highlighted in SI's "For the Record" section. With the help of the National Trust for Historic Preservation and the Preservation Alliance of Philadelphia, Playdon and students in his architectural preservation course are fighting to protect the historic site on North Broad Street where the iconic boxer once trained. Frazier, who died last year, lost the gym in 2008. The gym's façade is now covered by garish discount furniture signs.
