Philadelphia firm Cliqsearch counteracts the growing problem of "opinion spam" — positive product reviews written by hired contractors — by linking users to recommendations from people they're especially likely to trust: friends and friends of their friends. Munir Mandviwalla, chair of the Department of Management Information Systems at Temple's Fox School of Business, says Cliqsearch has added a new dimension to search: "This is the one that stands out."
