The storage industry may love it, but why do we hold on to things?

Stuff. We have it. We love it. We hate it. And despite the fact that we have no place to put it, we accumulate more of it all the time. "For most people, it's not a pathology," says Frank Farley, a psychologist in Temple's College of Education. "It's really a part of human nature to collect." Two big reasons are thrift and sentiment. "In bad economic times like this, there's almost an incentive not to throw stuff away," Farley says. "Most people think they're going to use that thing later."
