Study: Give more room for displays of anger at work

A recent study shows that managers can better resolve workplace issues if they listen to outraged employees instead of just punishing them for outbursts. But managers need to discern what's acceptable angry behavior and how best to handle underlying causes. "If you give people more room to express an honest emotion and if they are not afraid that they'll be fired if they let their emotions get the best of them, the boss can benefit from that situation," said study co-author Deanna Geddes, chair of Human Resource Management at Temple's Fox School of Business.
