Talks resume, but no guarantee NFL work stoppage has been avoided

Mediated talks between the league and the NFL Players Association resumed Monday afternoon, with the new deadline to make a deal moved to Friday. There is more optimism that a new collective bargaining agreement can be reached, after both sides agreed last week to a seven-day negotiating extension, but Friday looms as another ominous day for the NFL's future. "By no means are we in the clear," said N. Jeremi Duru, a sports labor expert at Temple's Beasley School of Law. "There still may be a labor war. At best, I'd be cautiously optimistic."
