President Obama chose Temple’s Patience Lehrman for one of the country’s highest civilian honors. Lehrman, national director of Project SHINE, will receive the 2012 Presidential Citizens Medal in recognition of exemplary service to the country. She said this honor is a reflection of the value immigrants represent to the country. “Look at how we can come together, establish a common agenda for really engaging newcomers in our various neighborhoods, give them the skills and the support they need to become part of this society.”
