In her 80 years, Joan Myers Brown, founder of Philadanco, has been an artist and visionary. The challenge of telling her life story, required someone equal in beauty and wisdom. No one was better qualified than Brenda Dixon Gottschild, professor emerita of dance studies at Temple. Of the protagonist and her life, Dixon-Gottschild says, “it is … an object lesson in survival, persistence and reconciliation, particularly for those who have come through, in spite of social, racial, and economic constraints.”
